Abstract :
The paper discusses a Multipatient Central ECG Monitoring System using PC-AT 386; realised at WIEECT Medical Electronics laboratory by the author. The monitor uses pulse width modulated data transmitted from the unit near the patient´s bed and the data is retrieved at 8255 (parallel port) on a DIO card. It is demultiplexed and decoded using software alone. Hence no demultiplexer or A/D converter is required. The synchronization and resetting of the hardware is also done by software using the same DIO card. So the reliability of the system is quite high
