Trusted P2P Media Delivery to Mobile Devices

Broadband Internet connectivity has reached mobile devices. Smart Phones are the Internet access devices of choice for a whole new generation of users. Data of all forms and shapes is becoming easily accessible: large multi-media files are being routinely downloaded onto a plethora of end user devices. Peer-to-peer content delivery enables massive scale in the amount of data volume that can be efficiently delivered. The openness of delivery demands adaptive and robust management of intellectual property rights. In this paper we describe a framework and its implementation to address the central issues in content delivery: a scalable peer-to-peer-based content delivery model, paired with a secure access control model that enables data providers to reap a return from making their original content available. Peers that contribute to the content delivery are also rewarded. Our prototype implementation - which includes a client for the Android platform for mobile phones - serves as proof of concept for our approach.
