Abstract
Some preliminary load models for integrated-services (digital) networks are described, and a survey of typical application classes for communication systems with mixed traffic is given. For these types of applications some of the more important published load measurements are summarized. Some of the load models that have resulted from these measurements are indicated. On this basis a unified approach is presented, which allows the description and modeling of typical loads for innovative communication systems with mixed traffic. This load-modeling approach supports the description of different system interfaces, as well as a variable degree of detail in system and load modeling
