Abstract
The paper investigates in context awareness for mobile robots. The robots are equipped with a system of several sensors for sensing the game board environment and taking decisions accordingly. It was studied how the environment information can constitute a benefit for navigation in the game board. Upgrading the reliability of previous team solutions, two new functionalities were developed to support context-aware capabilities. Giving orientation to the robots through an integrated compass module, represents the way in which mobile devices become aware of an absolute reference that aid navigation from one point to another. The second mechanism helps robots getting localization information, e.g., from intersections and corners in the game board. For this, the research was concentrated on two solutions: infrared and radio frequency identification. Considering the new capabilities that were developed, this article exposes a comparative survey, pointing the strengths of each technique involved in the field of spatial-aware systems.
