Abstract :
In this paper, an approach of hand-printed English character recognition is developed based on Fuzzy theory. The approach has two main functions, which are feature extraction and pattern recognition. Applying the feature extraction method carries out the feature properties that is used in identification process. For the pattern recognition, the Fuzzy theory is adopted to deal with the fuzzy patterns. The various writing styles of characters introduce large deviations, e.g., position, size and shape due to different writers. The character recognition system is tested on 26 lowercase hand-printed English characters with various test writers. Each character in this paper is stored in the form of binary bitmap image.
