Abstract
The inverted π dielectric waveguide as an alternative for designing tuneable microwave devices as well as electromagnetic band gaps structures is presented. The generalized scattering matrix concept, together with the generalized telegraphist equations formulism and the modal matching technique was implemented for theoretical analysis. This procedure was applied successfully for analyzing cylindrical dielectric posts, dielectric transitions as well as abrupt discontinuities in integrated planar and channel optical waveguides. Numerical and experimental results confirm the possibilities of the new inverted π dielectric waveguide for designing single and low cost tuneable microwave devices. Power splitters, electromagnetic windows and electromagnetic band gaps multidevice can be obtained on the same configuration.
