Abstract
The paper presents a novel non-contacting sensor for distance measuring based on a combined multi-port reflectometer (CMR). The calibration and distance measurement to a plane surface under test techniques as well as novel method for adjusting the generator signal frequency are introduced. This allows creation of a precise (up to 0.01 mm) and low-cost position sensor for metallurgical works and other applications. The results of computer simulation proving the advantages of proposed techniques are also presented in this paper.
