Abstract
A MUSIG induces multiscaling capability in a single multilayer self organizing neural network (MLSONN). An extended multilevel sigmoidal (XMUSIG) activation function with context sensitive thresholding (CONSENT), based on pixel-neighbor hostility, for multiscale object extraction using a single MLSONN is proposed in this article. The hostility of an image pixel with its neighbors in a second order neighborhood is determined by a proposed hostility index. This index reflects the neighborhood context of a pixel. The threshold values for the XMUSIG are derived from the pixel neighborhood contexts by computing the hostility indices of the pixels. A single MLSONN with error compensation based on a linear index of fuzziness is then employed to extract multiscale objects from a multiscale image scene. An application of the proposed XMUSIG activation function is demonstrated with two multiscale images. Results are substantiated by the standard correlation coefficients between the original and extracted images.
