Abstract :
The strategies are the tools that the students use when putting in practice self-regulation of their learning. The implementation of these strategies does not depend on the material tools used, but on the knowledge of the students themselves. On the other hand, the usage of advanced tools allows improvements in efficiency and efficacy when it comes to apply self-regulation and learning strategies. There are specific tools focused on supporting self-regulation learning processes, but not each of them fulfill this task in the same manner. Additionally, there are generic tools that offer a good level of support for some of these processes. We believe that it is possible to offer good support for the self-regulation of learning through the use of software tools, but it is important to select them and evaluate the level of support that they can offer. In this respect, we studied self-regulated learning theory trying to understand the mechanisms of self-regulation and define the criteria for designing software tools with proper support for these self-regulated learning processes. On this basis we created a questionnaire for the evaluation of self-regulated learning support that allows to evaluate software tools in this respect, enable its selection and also provide useful information for software developers so they can improve their tools to offer better support.
