Abstract
The resistance during defibrillating pulses was measured on Medtronic patch electrodes in a saline tank. The resistance was found to increase during each phase of a biphasic pulse, but the second phase resistance was always less than the first phase resistance. This phenomenon was explained by the polarization of the electrode-solution interface. In fact, if the polarization voltage was subtracted from the voltage measurement then the resistance changes were not seen
