Abstract :
First we briefly review the theory of IFS fractals and their use in generating and compressing images. Next we discuss the use of mixed fractal-wavelet methods in order to try to remove some of the unpleasant “blocking” artifacts introduced by the standard fractal methods. Finally, we discuss the relation between the pure fractal methods and the mixed fractal-wavelet methods
