  • Abstract
Slip energy recovery induction motor drives, in which the variable speed operation is achieved by means of controlling the slip power, are used in high-power applications. The paper presents the results of simulation and experimental tests of the modified subsynchronous cascade system - thyristor converter in the rotor circuit was replaced with a DC/DC converter and PWM inverter with sinusoidal output current and unity power factor. A comparative analysis of the proposed solution has been carried out with reference to the basic cascade configuration with the thyristor converter functioning as a line inverter. The criteria of assessment were: rms values of line currents and current distortion factors in selected points of the cascade system
