Abstract
This paper presents a preliminary study on a dual-element diversity antenna array for the GALILEO/GPS receivers to overcome the link difficulty in a multipath environment. The proposed design of the dual-element pattern diversity antenna consists of two helical antennas operating at L1 band. Though the helix exhibits a linear polarisation, it is noticed that the RHCP is not strictly required for GPS link in a highly scattered environment. It is calculated that the proposed dual-element antenna array can obtain a diversity gain of around 7 dB, which offers a substantial improvement to the signal link in the GALILEO/GPS system.
