Abstract
The most suitable coding methods to exchange large amounts of data on a channel with a 500 Mb/s capacity are presented in terms of power/bandwidth optimization. In the spacecraft-to-ground link an important role will be played by geostationary data relay satellite systems. Reference is made to the possibility of using on-board processing capabilities to modulate-demodulate and code-decode the data streams.<>
