Abstract :
Visual languages for databases were created to make the interaction between the user and a database easier. One such language is LIDAWEB, whose interface is capable of accessing remote databases through JDBC. This paper presents LIDA/REC, an extension to LIDAWEB that is capable of generating REC (regular expression compiler) language code out of a visual query specified in LIDAWEB. This code can be sent to, and run in, other computers. This is useful to delegate the responsibility of executing queries to a server, or executing the query in parallel in order to improve performance. LIDA/REC was implemented in Java and C languages.
