Abstract
This paper presents an accurate full-wave method for the calculation of the voltages induced on the elements of a planar antenna array by an incident electromagnetic field with Gaussian amplitude distribution. The Gaussian beam is expanded on a finite number of plane waves, and the voltage induced on each element is obtained as a superposition of the voltages induced by each plane wave. These voltages are evaluated under the infinite array approximation, i.e. considering only the elementary unit cell of the array. A similar approach can be applied also to the calculation of the impedance matrix of the array. This method proves advantageous both for the evaluation of the conversion efficiency of quasi-optical frequency multipliers and for the synthesis of planar arrays with a Gaussian radiated field
