Abstract
Earthquake excitations are often modeled by modulated filtered white noise for structural response analysis, to account for their nonstationarity. For a single degree of freedom system and a general form of modulation on the Kanai-Tajimi filter, an explicit solution of mean square response is given. This solution is obtained by analysis in the time domain using the state space approach. The solution can be readily generalized to the commonly used double filter case. Several popular modulation models for earthquakes can be treated as special cases in the solution. For illustration of applications, numerical examples are included
