Abstract :
The motivation for the recent introduction of the "Innovation and Entrepreneurship" course in engineering education is discussed in the context of an increasingly entrepreneurial role of universities and the demands that governments and corporations place on sustainability literacy of engineering graduates. Together with the organizational details of the course implementation at Khalifa University (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates), the Report presents a natural connection of this junior level course with the lectures on Systematic Innovation delivered as a part of the Senior Design course, as well as data and the analysis of the early students\´ attitudes towards systematic innovation in light of entrepreneurial and sustainability demands. Efforts to introduce and sustain instruction of multidisciplinary concepts such as systematic innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainability have encountered some obstacles, as our data indicate, but, at the same time, we identify signs that this type of pedagogical activity will beneficial to future engineering graduates.
