Abstract
The paper presents a brief narrative of EPA´s approach in responding to the “environmentally preferable products” provisions of section 503 of Executive Order 12873. It discusses the development of a guidance for the acquisition of environmentally preferable products which recommends general principles to consider when determining environmental preferability as well as proposes implementation through product-specific pilot acquisitions. A pilot involving the federal procurement of computers is planned. The approach taken, current status and next steps for this pilot are detailed
