Abstract
The requirements for accurate power components computation are raised through power delivery optimization and energy tariffs. The authors propose an orthogonality operator constituting the key tool in power computation for non-sinusoidal signals. The definitions of instantaneous reactive and distortion power have been formulated entirely in time domain. They constitute a natural extension of Budeanu concept. The proposed approach is restricted to time domain and therefore simple and suitable for implementation in smart metering systems.
