Abstract :
WiMAX is one of wireless broadband transmission standards. Its signal coverage, upload and download rate, and bandwidth efficiency is better than traditional wireless network. It can be the last mile for where the cable and DSL network cannot reach. Because of its characteristic of broadband access, the application coverage is wide, such as browsing, VOIP for low bandwidth requirement or video conference, streaming media, media content download for high bandwidth requirement. All the above mentioned applications can be implemented on devices which support WiMAX access. At present, ITRI(Industrial Technology Research Institute)in Taiwan establish world-first WiMAX application Lab(M-Taiwan WiMAX Application Lab, MTWAL)approved by WiMAX Forum, supporting open space for world-wide creator developing and testing. In this paper, we introduce several kinds of WiMAX applications available on the MTWAL network.
