Abstract :
While the requirements of the European EMC Directive are slowly becoming more familiar and better understood, there are several types of electronic products for which the requirements are not as straightforward as they may first appear. One important example of this is GSM900/1800 cellular telephones. Mobile phones are both radiocommunications transmission apparatus and telecommunication terminal equipment with possible applications in a vehicular environment. This means that a confusion of regulations including national type approval, the EMC Directive, the TTE Directive and the Vehicle EMC Directive are all applicable in certain circumstances. This paper explains the applicability of the various regulations to cellular telephones and describes the requirements and procedures in some detail
