Abstract :
Telemedicine applications are tools that aid doctors perform their duty without being physically present. This can be accomplished provided that some kind of communications infrastructure can convey the same amount of information and in the same way as if the doctor was present. It is also desirable for that communications infrastructure to support mobile communications so as to be applicable in mobile units (like ambulances). Today mobile voice communications are widely spread all over the world. The same means can be used for mobile data communications. However, the data transmission rate is not regular and so telemedicine information is presented in a non-regular rate, which can be very annoying for the remote doctor. This paper discusses animation techniques that keep viewing rate constant regardless of the transmission rate. These techniques have been tested in a mobile ECG telemonitoring system
