Abstract
Requirements for satellite communications amplifiers have evolved over the last few years. These changes have been driven both by changes in satellite characteristics as well as improvements in Earth station architecture. Future amplifiers will operate in limited bandwidth at high power on current frequency bands, and various power levels on new, higher frequency bands. Solid state power amplifiers are playing an expanded role in many applications, but vacuum electronics play an important continuing role
