Abstract
Hybrid electric vehicle techniques have been widely studied in recent years for their potential to significantly improve the fuel economy and reduce the emissions. In this paper, a hybrid energy management strategy is presented for a parallel hybrid vehicle. The proposed strategy incorporates a fuzzy logic controller to assess the amount of engine and motor´s output torque and a charge sustaining scheme to ensure better battery´s charge balance during the driving cycle. Finally, computer simulation works are carried out to evaluate the proposed energy management strategy. It was found that significant fuel consumption and emissions reduction could be achieved.
