Abstract :
This paper describes a three-dimensional modeling of in-cylinder air flow in a production open-chamber direct injection diesel engine with an offset piston-bowl during the compression period and early stages of expansion. The results of study reveal that the swirl in the bowl is undergoing procession, and is greatly affected by the squish flows, consequently different flow structure within the bowl at top dead center (TDC) of compression are generated.
