Abstract
This paper presents a profile design method for a new cam mechanism called breadth cam. A breadth cam gets its name because the centers of the rollers are a constant distance apart. And by the motion of follower, a breadth cam mechanism can be classified as two types: one with a pair of translating followers, the other with a pair of oscillating followers. This paper presents design solutions for breadth cam profiles. The main topic in the shape design for breadth cam is to calculate the coordinates to determine the profile through each contact point. In this paper, it proposed a new method according to the velocity relationships and geometric constraints at instant velocity centers. And it also developed an automatic program using Microsoft Visual C++ program which can quickly and easily draw a 2D cam profile through the displacement diagram.
