Abstract
Optical fibre amplifiers used in communication systems with wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) should have a gain spectrum with the nonuniformity not exceeding the units of dB for optical networks and the tenth and even the hundredth of dB for long-haul lines. We propose a new type of the dynamic gain equalizing filter (GEF). Its functioning is based on the use of nonlinear Fabry-Perot interferometer. The proposed GEF allows to obtain the flat gain spectrum of such amplifier in the range of 1534-1561 nm at pumping power of about 5 mW and additional loss of about 0.9 dB
