Title :
Temperature influences on Polymer Horizontal Line Post insulators
Abstract :
Temperature affects on Polymer Insulators has been of interest to Utility Engineers because the mechanical strength of the insulator is provided by a fiber glass rod. This paper covers the effects of temperature on cantilever strength of Polymer Horizontal Line Post insulators. It covers tests run by NEETRAC for Georgia Power Company on Transmission Line Horizontal Line Post insulators. There are environments where temperatures routinely reach above 100 degrees F. When solar heating from sunlight is added then the temperatures can reach or exceed 120 degrees F. Later one manufacturer ran similar tests and a summary of those results will also be presented.
