Abstract :
Understanding the energy dynamics of a manufacturing system is pertinent in minimizing energy usage on the production line. Utilizing this analysis of the complex system dynamics will identify inefficiencies on the production line. This paper expands upon previous research to incorporate the warmup time of each machine in the analysis of the dynamic system. This will help establish an energy baseline, which is the least amount of energy needed to create a certain number of parts. This leads to the identification of the energy profit bottleneck, which is the machine that causes the biggest loss in profit on the line. The energy profit bottleneck is proven both analytically and numerically in Simulink/MATLAB. The energy opportunity window is utilized to minimize the overall energy consumption on the production line without negatively impacting the production count.
