Abstract
From the viewpoint of taking measures against risks to enterprises, we clarified the occurrence scenario of each risk category by systematizing various problems that are relevant to chemical substances through the use of a fault tree. Simplifying the tree made it clear that taking measures against the risks posed by the disposing of chemical substances in landfills should be given the highest priority. We then developed a method of quantitatively evaluating the risks involved in the disposal of chemical substances in landfills, and applied the method to a case study using notebook-type personal computers. In this case study, with the aim of increasing work efficiency, we developed a tool that can search the types and amounts of chemical substances in parts and one that support us in calculating the risk. These tools made it possible to evaluate both the global-warming effects of products and the risks posed by chemical substances in the product development stage
