Abstract :
A two-step technique is applied to an Alloy 42 lead frame to measure the resistance and inductance of the section of leads external to the package body that are parallel. The parallel leads form a transmission line that is analyzed with a 2D electromagnetic simulator to obtain the frequency-dependent complex permeability of the lead frame material. An approximate formula for the lead resistance and inductance is developed that shows good accuracy and is useful for convergence acceleration in solving the reverse problem and for approximate lead frame analysis
