Abstract :
CMOS is an ESSI PIE (Process Improvement Experiment) performed by Euroelettra, a producer of software systems for industrial process automation, mostly in the ceramic sector. The purpose of CMOS is to experiment with a software change management (SCM) process for managing many tailored versions of our products. This process is characterised as follows: (a) it makes the product status visible at all times; (b) it ensures the tracing of our products; (c) it ensures the alignment between the customer´s version and the one archived in-house; and (d) it is integrated within our quality management system. The industrial automation sector is a wide and strategic one. Our experience could raise considerable interest among software producers in this sector, because of the importance of the issues tied to change management. They will find in CMOS a demonstration of the benefits to be gained from a comprehensive change management process supported by automation
