Abstract
This paper discusses the influence of music genres on musical expression generation. First of all, this paper describes the generation method of musical expression that is the deviation of performance from tempo marks and/or dynamical marking in a score based on player´s impressions of a piece of music. The generation procedure of musical expression consists of two parts; the image estimation part and the part of the derivation of parameters values of musical expression. This paper also studies the influence of music genres on musical expression generation by subject experiments. In the experiments, four kinds of musical genres, classic, jazz, Japanese popular music (J-pop) and Japanese ballad (Enka), are considered. From the experimental results it is found that musical expressions reflecting the impressions are generated well in classic, jazz, J-pop and Enka genres. However, it is also found that there are some musical expressions that are not generated by the proposed method according to the musical structure of an original piece.
