Abstract :
The Mark 84 375KVA, 60 Hz to 400 Hz frequency changer was specifically designed to supply power to the United States Navy´s most sophisticated and demanding shipboard electronic weapons systems. Existing frequency changing equipment in the forms of motor-generator sets and solid state designs based on the silicon controlled rectifier had been proven inappropriate for supplying Type III 400 Hz power to such highly dynamic loads. This paper describes a new high power, transistorized 400 Hz power converter which overcomes the deficiencies of motor-generator and SCR solid state converter units and sets a new standard of performance for frequency changing equipment.
