Abstract :
This paper explains the mystifying performance of a nonlinear capacitance used as a passive energy saving device (ESD). According to the law of energy conservation, such ESDs cannot improve motor efficiency. Theoretical and experimental studies prove that the bulk of the perceived “energy savings” are caused by the current transformers phase angle error
