  • Abstract
As generation and transmission costs, stability, and security issues continue to be complicated by a growing population that relies primarily on centralized electricity production, alternative distributed generation systems show promise as a solution. This paper presents a hybrid wind-microturbine generation (MTG) system and evaluates power management and implementation methods with power electronic interface for stand-alone operation. The Wind-MTG system dynamic model consists of a wind energy conversion system that utilizes a self-excited induction generator and a single-shaft microturbine that incorporates a permanent magnet synchronous generator. Actual wind data is used to simulate generation profiles for the hybrid system. Simulation results presented for a case study indicate the suitability of the hybrid system for distributed generation.
