Abstract :
Cognitive Radios are increasingly being used for better utilization of licensed spectrum. Most of the work has been done on exploitation of time and frequency domain while code and space dimension have not been intensively explored for improving spectrum utilization. In this work, we investigate exploitation of time and space domain simultaneously for optimizing licensed spectrum utilization while adopting Cognitive terminals with Genetic Algorithm based smart antenna. Our work supports multiple simultaneous communications, i.e. more than one directed communication at a time while incorporating Channel Assignment algorithm for communication in all possible directions. Integration of channel assignment and sensing information into a beam-forming framework for Cognitive Radios also provides a non-intrusive architecture. We evaluated the proposed algorithm by extensive simulations for Beam-forming with power control mechanism and demonstrated that proposed algorithm performs superior to Common Channel assignment scheme with wide margin.
