Abstract
In this paper, we present the overview of Power Line Communication Network (PLCN) which is based on the concept of communication with “no new wires”. PLCN uses the already existing power cables as communication medium to transmit the high frequency data/control signals (MHz) over the 230V, 50 Hz AC electrical line. Data rates up to several hundreds of megabits per second can be shared in a PLCN. This paper presents the implementation and testing of PLCN for an intelligent building application. The measurements results show that PLCN can be effectively utilized for controlling any gadget that can be plugged into the electrical socket and hence achieving energy efficiency.
