Abstract :
The application of simple fuzzy power systems stabilizers (SFPSSs) to enhance the damping of inter-area oscillations of the Mexican Interconnected System (MIS) is presented. In particular, the work is focused on improving the damping of one of the most critical oscillation modes of the MIS: the north-south inter-area mode. The SFPSSs used in this work are characterized by a significantly reduced fuzzy rule table, small number of controller tuning parameters and simple control algorithm and architecture, which makes them suitable for real-time and practical applications. Time domain simulations for a set of critical disturbances are carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the SFPSSs, as compared to the conventional PSSs (CPSSs), in improving the system dynamic performance. Prony analysis is applied to the simulation results in order to quantify and compare the enhancement in the system damping ratio provided by the effect of the SFPSSs versus the CPSSs.
