Abstract :
This paper discusses a promising new method for designing power swing damping controllers. The method solves directly for a low-order robust controller satisfying a frequency-response bound. It is based on the optimization of dynamic systems with linear matrix inequalities as the design constraints. Constraints on the controllers such as positive redness can also be imposed in the design. The proposed method is used to design a power system stabilizer and a damping controller for a thyristor-switched series capacitor
