Abstract :
The paper describes essential principles of FDDI communication networks. It presents how FDDI network performance can be improved by adaptation of the network controlling parameters - throughput, packet size, access delay, token holding timer. Adaptation is achieved by integrating a fuzzy system into network nodes. To compare the suggested fuzzy approach with the traditional FDDI ones FDDI network simulations are developed. The experimental results are analyzed to estimate the impact of the fuzzy system on the network performance. The performance of the FDDI protocol (as throughput, link utilization, and delay) is examined by varying network parameters. The simulations are performed in the OMNeT++ environment.
