Abstract :
We studied several system scenarios for connecting remote antennas to a central control station in a WLAN 802.11 network by multimode fiber-optic links and coax cable links. The system dynamic range was defined and calculated for the uplink connection. For short distances up to 200 m, passive coax cable links have a -20 dB higher dynamic range than fiber links at 5.8 GHz, whereas fiber-optic connections utilizing 50 mum MMF can achieve long distances up to 1000 m. Realistic component parameters based on measurements were used for the analysis
