Abstract
Simulation studies spanning a variety of experimental conditions have been done, all centering around the use of a common membrane kinetic model (Luo-Rudy). Applications range from modeling of propagation along multicellular preparations including electrical discontinuities to simulating the behaviour of a single isolated cell at excitation-threshold, subjected to current as well as external field stimulation. Results of the simulation studies are compared to experimental observations at different size scales. The experimental data come from several different sources: from high-density micro-electrode measurements on tissue preparations, from high-resolution optical potential recordings of single cells as well as from whole-cell ionic current measurements
