Abstract :
The influence of the size of steel structural components on wear resistance is studied under conditions of sliding friction against bonded abrasive. It is found that in steels with spheroidite structure the abrasion resistance follows a Hall-Petch relation with the cementite particle spacing. In steels with laminated structure the abrasive wear resistance is directly proportional to the ferritic spacing size. It is also revealed that the change of commercially pure iron grain size in a wide range does not influence the abrasive wear. Also, the influence of the prior austenitic grain size on wear resistance is established
