Abstract :
Fuzzy logic is used with an LQG controller to solve a tracking problem for the US Air Force´s C-18 cruise missile mission control aircraft (CMMCA). The CMMCA´s mission is to radar track and clear cruise missiles (CM) during test flights using an AN/APG-63 air-to-air radar similar to that in the McDonnell-Douglas F-15. Because of altitude and maneuverability differences, as well as the complexity of the CM flight profiles, maintaining radar coverage is very difficult. Previous work was only able to provide acceptable tracking for a small portion of a turn. Using fuzzy logic to supervise a linear quadratic controller, 100% radar coverage was obtained by a controller capable of real-time implementation
