Abstract
The Integrated Distribution Management System (IDMS) being implemented at Alabama Power, A Southern Company, is described in terms of functional architecture. The IDMS functionally consists of distribution SCADA, visualization, electronic switching, outage management, distribution network analysis and optimization, all sharing a single instance of a dynamic connectivity model which removes duplication of data entry and model synchronization issues. A single user interface is shared by all of the functions providing seamless navigation between them with a common look and feel. How these functional components fit into a Smart Grid implementation is discussed.
