Abstract :
The voltage step-up characteristics of the Rosen-type piezoelectric transformers using Pb(Mn1/3Sb2/3)O 3-PbZrO3-PbTiO3 ceramics were investigated as a function of the width (W) and length (L). Two types of PT were prepared in this study; one type with W>L and the other with W<L. With increasing the area of PT by increasing the L or the W in the range of 12~42 mm, the voltage step-up ratio, Vout/Vin, was also increased in both cases. The step-up ratio under a load resistance of 100 MΩ was almost same in both types of PT with same area. However, the voltage step-up ratio under a load resistance of 150 kΩ, which corresponds to the turn-on condition of LCD backlight, the transformer showed better characteristics when W>L
