  • Abstract
Security and privacy are two integrated issues in deploying vehicular networks. Privacy-preserving authentication is a key technique in addressing these two issues. We propose to use group signature to authenticate vehicles in vehicular networks. To meet the requirements of speediness of authentication, we improve NF05 (Nakanishi and Funabiki) group signature scheme without compromising security and obtain a new scheme with shorter signature and less computations. According to the proposed group signature scheme, we give two privacy-preserving authentication mechanisms suitable for vehicular networks. The outstanding properties of group signature guarantee that our authentication schemes have the desirable properties of a practical privacy- preserving authentication protocol.
