Abstract
Current solid-state technology permits fabrication of an integrated silicon array chip which can generate and sense the 2-D electrical patterns as well as to store and process them. The same chip can be a substrate in a steady-operated perfusive life-support system for a cellular culture, tissue, organ, etc. (biosystem). The chip and the feeding steady-flow system form a kind of artificial environment (AE) for the biosystem. The AE can be a model for a control system specifying the biosystem activity, in particularly, the production of specific proteins. The different prospects of online pattern-directed electronic control of cellular activity are presented. This AE-biosystem combination can also be a model for an information-intensive pattern-based human-computer interface
